Testo SE & Co. KGaA
Future-Ready Thanks to Cross-Platform Monitoring & Analysis with BVQ°
High-Precision Measurement Technology from testo is everywhere. Whether it's ensuring food safety, meeting pharmaceutical standards, optimizing heating systems or preserving art in climate-controlled environments - Testo tools play a key role. The German company, with 3,200 employees, is a global leader in portable and stationary measurement solutions for temperature, humidity, pressure, emissions and more. Over 650,000 customers - from small trades businesses and HVAC service providers to pharmaceutical corporations - rely on Testo’s hardware, software and services.
Challenge
Testo SE & Co. KGaA specializes in digitalization and smart measurement technology. Precision is also essential within the IT team, which designs and operates IT services both on-premises and in the cloud. As a reliable partner for development, innovation and production, the IT team ensures systems are highly available, stable, future-ready and cost-efficient. This requires a centralized monitoring, alerting and reporting system that can map cross-platform dependencies to quickly detect and proactively respond to performance or capacity events.
Testo’s infrastructure includes a variety of solutions, such as VMware vSphere for server virtualization. The ESX host hardware is provided via a FlexPod environment consisting of a redundant Cisco UCS solution connected to highly available NetApp AFF storage. While these systems work closely together, each vendor offers its own monitoring and alerting tools. These tools allow for deep analysis of individual systems, but a cross-platform, holistic monitoring view is not available.
Solution: BVQ° by SVA
SVA’s BVQ° software provides the ideal solution for Testo with a unified, centralized and clear monitoring and analysis system. All key layers of the IT infrastructure are examined for threshold compliance, best practice configurations and critical factors. With a single point of overview, bottlenecks on virtual servers, hosts, clusters, storage latencies or network spikes can be identified at a glance.
BVQ° alerting helps automate this monitoring. Predefined analysis methods make working with BVQ° easy by highlighting critical areas that require continuous monitoring. The included reports allow for consistent and standardized evaluation of collected data.
After the smooth installation of BVQ° at Testo, an initial analysis of the environment was conducted using standardized reports and alerts. All critical parameters can now be monitored clearly and easily, enabling quick identification of resource and performance bottlenecks, misallocations and critical response times - including their origins, solutions and how to optimally distribute resources.
The load distribution between VMware and NetApp, as well as within the NetApp systems, became particularly clear, along with opportunities for resource optimization in the VMware environment. The resulting action plans helped prevent potential performance issues in advance.
More Future-Readiness
The system adjustments not only significantly improved cost-efficient resource usage, but the use of BVQ° also greatly enhanced planning reliability for future IT landscape expansions. The satisfied system administrators at Testo are now fully committed to the strengths of BVQ°, using it for reporting, monitoring, and cross-platform analysis. Given the excellent collaboration with SVA experts and continued access to their expertise, Testo is also open and interested in expanding BVQ° toward Kubernetes in the future.
